2019 Ford F-150 Bests its RAM Rival Head-to-Head: See How Here at Ashe County Ford

Our automaker's full-size truck is one of the best-selling in America, well-regarded by construction workers, pleasure cruisers, and light-duty pickup enthusiasts for four decades and counting. There are several good reasons for that, too, from its ease of handling and comfortable interior to its unrivaled towing and hauling chops and excellent fuel economy.

But step into its driver's seat, and you'll find the new Ford F-150 excels even further against powerful rivals like the latest RAM 1500, and in the areas that matter most. Here are just some of the ways it's "Built Ford Tough" to stand the test of time.

2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn

2019 Ford F-150 vs. 2019 RAM 1500

  • First, the 2019 F-150 comes in a choice of seven trims. They range from base XL and XLT to mid-level Lariat and King Ranch and all the way to Platinum and Limited at the top of the line. There's also an ultra-rugged trim for serious all-terrain performance, F-150 Raptor. RAM 1500 features only six: base Tradesman, step-up Big Horn, midrange Laramie, and fully loaded Laramie Longhorn and Limited, plus a sporty Rebel trim.
  • Next, F-150 is offered, among other variants, in a single-cab configuration with two doors, the go-to for the day laborer or tradesperson looking for all hard-working-pickup and no frills. RAM 1500, however, now only comes in larger crew and quad cab options, with the investment that comes with it.
  • Six powertrain options, including a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 in King Ranch and Platinum trims shelling a mighty 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, make F-150 the right choice for nearly any application. RAM 1500 makes available only three engine and transmission pairings.
  • An ultra-high-efficiency 250-horsepower, 3.0-liter Power Stroke® turbo-diesel engine capable of 440 pound-feet of turning and pulling power is available in F-150 Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. No diesel option is offered at all, however, in RAM 1500.
  • A 450-horsepower EcoBoost V6 powerhouse capable of a metaphorically tire-shredding 510 pound-feet of torque for off-roading comes standard in Raptor trims. RAM 1500 engine offerings max out with a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 capable of only 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet.
  • With a best-in-class payload rating for up to 3,270 pounds, Ford F-150 can haul anything from a work crew to a boatload of tools and outboard equipment. RAM 1500, on the other hand, can only lug up to 2,300 pounds in its cab and bed combined.
  • F-150 is also capable of towing trailerfuls up to a whopping 13,200 pounds, also a class-leading rating. That's enough capacity for anything from lighter fare, like a pair of dirt bikes or ATVs or a second vehicle, to the big stuff, like a light towable camper. RAM 1500 can only take up to 12,750 pounds in tow.
  • Getting up to an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with a diesel engine, F-150 is also more fuel-economical than RAM 1500. The latter gets only up to 20 mpg and 25 mpg respectively with its 3.6-liter V6, even with eTorque mild hybrid technology.
